After 33 races, the second Bundesliga weekend of the season was already over. Watersport-Verein Hemelingen from Bremen came out on top with two race wins, five second places, three third places and a fifth place. "We had a great event here in Tutzing and are delighted that we were able to clinch victory. A big thank you goes to the race committee, who did a great job," said Eike Martens from Wassersport-Verein Hemelingen, who sailed with Carsten Kemmling, Markus Maisenbacher and Tjorben Wittor to the first league victory and to the top of the table in the 1st Bundesliga, in which Chiemsee Yacht Club and Norddeutscher Regatta Verein now follow after two events.
Second place off Tutzing went to the Chiemsee Yacht Club with helmsman Leopold Fricke, who are experienced in dealing with light winds on the Bavarian lakes, ahead of the team from Segelkameradschaft Wappen von Bremen with Thomas Dehler at the helm. Anyone in Bavaria looking for the three-time German club champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein had to look as far down as eighth place. Tobi Schadewaldt, one of last year's guarantors of success, was at the helm. The two-time champions and hosts from the German Touring Yacht Club only found themselves in 14th place. Helmsman Julian Stückl and his team had not found their usual rhythm. The Seglerhaus am Wannsee club had to go home in 16th place.
In changeable conditions, the first division teams had just as exciting races as the second division teams, where a northern club, Schlei-Segel-Club, also came out on top. Helmsman Andreas Willim, Chris Hartkopf, Thomas Kruse and Suzanne Willim have thus taken the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga.
One of the most sought-after qualities this weekend on Lake Starnberg was strong nerves. Shifting, light or no winds made life difficult for the sailors in the Bundesliga time and again. In between, thunderstorms and, on Sunday afternoon, winds of up to 13 knots provided variety. The third league weekend will take place from 21 to 23 July during the Travemünde Week.
That was the Bundesliga summit on Lake Starnberg off Tutzing
